Heart Of America wins Album of the year award

The Heart of America album has won the Scottish Traditional Music Awards Album of the Year award for 2006. The award was annouced on Saturday 3rd December at the awards ceromony in Fort William.

Bonar Hall Concert

The next concert will be on Saturday 11th November, 2006 at the Bonar Halls, University of Dundee, Dundee. The doors open at 7pm and tickets cost £15 in advance or £18 on the night at the door. Radio Scotland Show - The Reel Blend.

Donnie Munro will be the special guest presenter on the BBC Radio Scotland show called "The Reel Blend" on both Sunday 3rd September and Sunday 10th September. The show airs between 13:05 and 15:00, and is available on the FM radio, on Freeview and Sky Digital, as well as online at the BBC Scotland website. For those unable to listen to the show at that time, there is as usual the "Listen Again" part of the BBC website for the 7 days after the show.

Heart Of America Album.

Heart of America coverDonnie Munro's 7th solo album entitled Heart Of America (Across the great divide) is released on the 1st July (in shops from Monday 3rd July). Everyone who has heard the album considers this to be Donnie's finest solo release to-date. The album contains 12 tracks, 4 of which are gaelic songs. Also included is a version of the Irish poem Raglan Road and a cover version of The Incredible String Band's October Song.

Concert News.

East Kilbride 27th May 2006Donnie Munro has announced a couple of dates for 2006. The first is 27th May in East Kilbride. Donnie will be appearing as part of the Artburst Festival. The venue will be the stage in Hunter Street located in what is known as the Old Village in East Kilbride. He is due to be on stage around 9pm - 10pm. No tickets are needed - it is a free event.

The next date announced is the 3rd August where Donnie will perform on the opening night of the Speyfest Music Festival. More details can be found on the Speyfest website www.speyfest.org.

The following night Friday 4th August, Donnie will be performing at The Ironworks - an new venue in Inverness. Tickets for the concert are priced £16 and will go on sale on the 1st July More details can be found on the Ironworks website at www.ironworksvenue.com.

Donnie Munro and Friends DVD release.

DVD CoverRiver Records have released a new DVD entitled Donnie Munro and Friends. The DVD is from a Scottish Television show which was show on Burns Night 2000, and featured Donnie Munro and his band as well as many of his friends joining him on stage. Featuring a mixture songs written by Burns, some of his own work and a couple of old favourites from his Runrig days.

Celtic Connection Concert on Radio Scotland.

The Celtic Connections Concert on Friday 20th January, 2006 was recorded by BBC Scotland as part of the Travelling Folk radio show. Sadly you are no longer able to listen to the show online anymore.

Donnie announces new record label deal.

Donnie announced at Celtic Connections 2006 that he has signed to Scottish-based record label Greentrax Recordings. In an interview Donnie said " I am delighted to be signing to one of Scotland's finest record companies and one which has played such a major role in developing and sustaining the industry here in Scotland. It is so important that we are able to create, sustain and develop on indigenous music industry to support the vast pool of talent which exists here in Scotland and that musicians, especially young emerging talent, can look to the support of a professional industry. Scotland's musicians offer a wonderful platform for Scotland to project itself on the internationalstage and, for many people visiting Scotland, music has been their first point of contact."

Donnie is currently working on a new studio album at the recording studio of long time friend, producer and also band member Chris Harley. Delighted at being back in the studio after such a long time, Donnie is looking forward to working on what he thinks will be a very different album from much of his previous work. He said he was approaching the work in a much more direct manner, with the songs at the centre of everything and looking for "just the right musical landscape to place them in."

Expect the new album to be released on the 1st July 2006.

Website's messageboard members goes fundraising.

This website has a very active messageboard community (Donnie Munro Messageboard), and for 2006 the fans will be raising funds throughout the year for the two charities for which Donnie is patron of. The campaign will be called Don8 and will use a logo designed by one of the fans themselves. The two charities they hope to support are The Highland Society for the Blind and secondly the project Mypas for which Donnie has recently become a patron for. We welcome all ideas, suggestions, donations and gifts on what will hopefully be a successful 2006.

Celtic Connections 2006.

Donnie will be performing ay Celtic Connections 2006 at two events. The first is on Monday 16th January as part of the Scottish Men concert where Donnie will sing two songs. This is followed on the Friday 20th January by a full Headlining concert featuring Donnie Munro and his band at the Fruitmarket.
